SENCO

The successful candidate will lead a team of committed Learning Support Assistants and an excellent Assistant SENCO in developing the best possible provision and support for our students with learning support needs throughout the school. Additionally the successful candidate will be an outstanding teacher, able to deliver exciting, relevant and challenging lessons. A subject specialism in English is desirable, but not an essential part of the selection criteria. This is a very exciting time to be joining this school as SENCO. A broad and balanced curriculum is offered that is totally inclusive of student learning styles. Supported groups in core subjects and a vocational curriculum offer which can be combined with GCSE options at Key Stage 4 is one of the things the school are proudest of and is certainly popular with students and parents. Every year we showcase students' talents with a vocational celebration evening in our purpose built inclusion area. This area, close to the school's new Learning Resource Centre, is a welcoming and purpose built facility with a classroom, open plan learning area, independent study booths, construction area, kitchen and SENCo office. Staff and students are polite and friendly and there is a positive, business like atmosphere. In December 2010 we were judged as 'Good' by Ofsted. With the increased Ofsted focus on the progress of SEN students your team will be crucial in supporting the work of our Curriculum Directors and teachers who are keen to help student of all abilities make progress. The school has changed dramatically in the last 5 years. We have doubled in size in terms of the numbers on roll and last September the final stage of building work was completed with the opening of the new Social Sciences building. Currently 7% of students at the school are categorised by Raise on Line as SEN students though you will deploy your team of staff to support as many students as possible. We are looking for an ambitious, innovative and creative teacher who has the commitment and drive to support our students with Special Educational Needs and lead our fantastic team of Learning Support Assistants.
